Welcome to Hellbrunn!

Palace and Trick Fountains Hellbrunn - Lust for life since 1615!

You never know what to expect in Hellbrunn. Only one thing is certain - it is a lot of fun. The trick fountains spray water from all nozzles and spouts, but no worries -  guests might catch a few drops, but certainly won’t get drenched! This amusement is enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. But Hellbrunn is more than just its unique trick fountains. It is a place for celebration, for pleasure and recuperation. Just like Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus intended.

Zoo Salzburg Hellbrunn - the world of animals from 5 continents!

1,500 domestic and exotic animals from 150 different species - from the harvest mouse to the white rhinoceros - live with us in natural and spacious facilities. Against the backdrop of the impressive rock face of Hellbrunn Mountain, our visitors enjoy fascinating insights into the world of animals and fantastic views of the Salzburg mountains.

That is Hellbrunn, truly worthy of its name because all around it has water clearer than glass, clearer than crystal and more transparent and translucent as the sky itself [...] And really, if one looks upon the walls one can say that they are the fortress of entertainment, look upon the theatre and one has the plays of pleasure, and finally, as far as the fountains are concerned, here is the graceful jubilance of water.
Domenico Gisberti, 1670

The water faucets at Hellbrunn entertained us for a while; I never saw such happy beavers as those of the Archbishop of Salzburg, who allowed them – even encouraged them – to build and take pleasure however they wished: he also had fish that ate from his hand, they are not carp, but I don’t know exactly what they are either.
Hesther Lynch Piozzi, 1785
